Metallica is an American heavy metal band that formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line-up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo.

Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.[1] The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with Metallica (1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience.

In 2000, Metallica was among several artists who filed a lawsuit against Napster for sharing the band's copyright-protected material for free without the band members' consent.[2] A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release of St. Anger alienated many fans with the exclusion of guitar solos and the "steel-sounding" snare drum. A film titled Some Kind of Monster documented the recording process of St. Anger.

Metallica has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-four music videos, and forty-five singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the only band ever to do so.[3] The band's 1991 album, Metallica, has sold over 15 million copies in the United States, and 22 million copies worldwide, which makes it the 25th-highest-selling album in the country.[4] The band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide as of the release of their latest album, Death Magnetic. As of September 2008, Metallica is the fourth highest-selling music artist since the SoundScan era began tracking sales on May 25, 1991, selling a total of 51,136,000 albums in the United States alone

R.E.M: Paleo Festival Suiza 2008

Show de R.E.M. en el Paleo Festival de Suiza, realizado el 27 de Julio de 2008 durante la gira de pesentación del disco Accelerate. La calidad del audio es excelente, y la banda presenta temas de su ultimo disco con varios de sus clásicos.

El show fue transmitido por una FM, pero desafortunadamente quedaron fuera 'Horse To Water' y 'Losing My Religion' de la misma. Lo que no disminuye para nada la calidad del concierto, con la banda en una gran actuacion.

V.A. - A Musicares Person Of The Year Tribute Honoring James

You’ve gotta have some nerve to get up and perform a well-known song by one of the greatest living singer-songwriters when the guy is sitting right there in the audience.

In this case, the guy is James Taylor, and as it turns out, he seems to bring out the best in people who are performing his songs. Sure, Sting admitted to being nervous, and Keith Urban said he was "sick as a dog" but the selection of artists invited to perform at A MusiCares Person of the Year Tribute Honoring James Taylor was not made lightly.

Some of the performers are longtime friends and others who came up through the ranks with JT: Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Carole King, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Bruce Springsteen. Others, many of whose careers have been influenced by Taylor’s towering musical presence, ably represented a variety of musical genres: Sheryl Crow, India.Arie, Dixie Chicks, Keith Urban, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, Alison Krauss.
They Shouldn't Have Worried

Courtesy Rhino MediaAll of them overcame the yips to honor Taylor’s musical, humanitarian and philanthropic contributions. And they weren’t afraid (or, if they were, they didn’t show it) to offer their interpretations of some of Taylor’s best known signature songs like "Shower the People," "You Can Close Your Eyes" and "Carolina In My Mind." In each case, the most enthusiastic applause, and loudest whistles, came from JT himself.

The honoree wrapped up the show with a three-song set of his own, including a rousing "all hands (audience included) on deck" rendition of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You).
